Frequently Asked Questions

I'VE NEVER BEEN TO THERAPY. WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Therapy is a unique relationship centered around you and your needs, and your confidentiality is guaranteed.

My approach to therapy is client-centered, meaning I don't bring rigid structure to sessions and I believe in allowing clients to guide their process. I believe each therapy session should be as unique as the client.

I provide EMDR therapy, which is a proven method for helping clients process trauma so that it no longer haunts them. EMDR frees clients to move forward in life without the lingering effects of trauma symptoms.

I also specialize in Perinatal Mental Health Disorders. The term "perinatal" refers to the period during pregnancy and 12 months after delivery. I have advanced training in diagnosing, understanding, and treating the mental health disorders that may arise during that period.

Finally, I utilize a variety of other therapy methods to help clients resolve issues related to anxiety or depression. I will often help clients identify and reframe unhealthy thought patterns, examine personal values, explore goals, and establish a sense of meaning and purpose in life. I also like to guide clients in relaxation exercises. Occasionally I will suggest a book, worksheet, video, or other media to help facilitate the therapy process; however, this therapy "homework" is usually optional and is rarely a requirement.

In your free consultation and first session we will discuss your needs, determine if I am the best fit for you, and establish a plan for helping you achieve your goals.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Yes. I can accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, and I am looking forward to adding other insurance options soon.

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST?

Your out-of-pocket cost will vary based on appointment type and insurance. I do offer a sliding scale for self-pay clients.

Current Rates:

$125 per 55-minute session
$185 per Diagnostic Assessment

Self-pay clients are also entitled to a Good Faith Estimate.
Check out the Rates & Insurance page for more information.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED TO ATTEND?

The length of therapy can vary quite a bit based on your goals, symptoms, and treatment modality. Some clients attend just a few sessions while others prefer to maintain ongoing appointments long-term. The average time it takes for psychotherapy clients to notice improvement is 3 months. Your treatment will be a continuing discussion from your very first appointment, and I will always allow you to have control in the process.

HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

Sessions are 55 minutes in length. The initial Diagnostic Assessment can take up to 90 minutes.

IS THERAPY CONFIDENTIAL?

Yes. Your confidentiality in therapy is protected by HIPAA, just like any other medical appointment. What you say in my office stays in my office. Exceptions to confidentiality include: 1. If you give written permission for me to consult with another person; or 2. If you or someone else is at risk of harm.

I will thoroughly review confidentiality with you in your initial appointment.
