PERINATAL, TRAUMA, & FAITH-BASED PSYCHOTHERAPY

Do you find yourself thinking:

I think I’m crazy

No one
understands

Life didn’t used
to be this hard

I must be broken

I have some encouragement for you: Those feelings are not forever. You can find contentment in life again, even during the difficult times. Life can get better.

I’M ALLISON.

I know that life can feel overwhelming. I’m here to help.

My approach to therapy is client-centered, meaning I allow my clients to direct the flow and direction of their sessions. I strive to provide a comforting atmosphere for all of my clients: one in which you can feel welcomed, understood, and truly cared for.

I have the knowledge and skills to help you. My clients often say they didn’t know therapy could be so helpful. Many clients have expressed feeling more free, hopeful, and relieved at the end of our sessions.

Here’s how I can help:

  • The term “perinatal” refers to the period during and after pregnancy. It is a unique time for a woman’s life, in which she can feel more vulnerable, emotional, or lost in her own identity. Symptoms during this period can be surprising or even frightening.

I’m a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Counselor (PMH-C). I’m trained in the specific mental health considerations of the perinatal period. I’m passionate about caring for pregnant women and helping them navigate this unique life experience.

  • Trauma may seem like an extreme description for what you’ve experienced; you might not relate to that term. However, you don’t have to be a war veteran to have experienced something traumatic. Trauma can include any deeply distressing or disturbing experience which has dramatically altered the way you function.

I’m a Certified EMDR therapist. EMDR is a unique form of therapy focused on helping your brain re-wire the trauma and learn to function more effectively.

  • People’s religious perspectives significantly impact the way they think about life and the world. As a Christian, I can relate to the unique worldview of someone who has been raised in church and/or has surrendered to living for God. I know how important it is to receive guidance from someone who will affirm that faith, rather than challenge it. I will support you in incorporating your beliefs as much or as little as you would like in the therapy process.

  • Serving the community as a first responder means you are exposed to many stressors, traumas, and challenges. Each day is new and unpredictable, with the potential for directly or indirectly experiencing tragedy. I’m an experienced trauma therapist and I am exposed to the life of a first responder each day through my spouse’s careers. I can understand why you react the way you do, and I have tools to help you function differently.

  • As a recovering perfectionist myself, I have a particular interest and passion in helping others. You may be thinking, “I’m not a perfectionist, because my life is not perfect yet.” If so, then congratulations, you’re a perfectionist!

Through my professional work I’ve discovered that many young women in particular tend to feel anxious, worried, or not good enough. If any of that sounds familiar, then I want to encourage you that you’re not the only one, and this can get better. You can live a more relaxed life.
