Therapy for Christians in the Brainerd Area

Faith-based support for understanding who God created you to be.

Do you feel lost, in spite of your faith?

Navigating life as a Christian is not exempt from its share of trials and tribulations. Christians often grapple with intense internal battles, external pressures, and moral dilemmas that can leave them feeling overwhelmed and spiritually disoriented. Sometimes the belief that you need to “pray it away” or “just trust God more” can make it hard to seek the support of therapy. While prayer and trust are cornerstones to our faith, they are not indelible protections against hardship. We are still imperfect beings in a fallen world.

Christian therapy provides a supportive space where you can openly explore your faith, reconcile your struggles, and find solace in connecting with a therapist who shares your beliefs. Therapy can help you find guidance, spiritual direction, and utilize tools grounded in biblical principles. Through our work together you can embark on a journey toward emotional and spiritual growth.

Common questions about therapy for Christians.

  • You may encounter different opinions on this, but my opinion is that therapy can be fully in alignment with your faith. I will never suggest any intervention that contradicts the Bible or is offensive to God. Therapy is simply gaining a deeper understanding in order to better oneself - I believe that it is not only an acceptable, but an appropriate practice to engage in as a Christian.

  • You absolutely can and should seek counsel from your Pastor or Priest. The therapy I offer is a separate, complementary service to spiritual counsel. Often, I have clients who meet with their church leader(s) in addition to scheduling sessions with me. My training is in understanding and treating mental health concerns. Think of it like this: You might ask your Pastor or Priest for prayer and spiritual guidance during a physical health struggle, while also seeking medical treatment through a hospital. Similarly, you might seek counsel from your church leadership while also attending psychotherapy.

  • In your first session I will complete a diagnostic assessment, which is a thorough clinical evaluation of your mental health symptoms or diagnoses. From there I will work with you to identify your individual goals, as well as therapeutic strategies for how I can help you achieve them.
